
Ryogoku Kokugikan

Ryōgoku Kokugikan is Tokyo’s iconic sumo arena with a two-part history: the first hall opened at Ekōin in 1909 and stayed in use in various roles until 1983, while the current Kokugikan opened in 1985 in Yokoami next to the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Visit to soak up the electric atmosphere of live sumo tournaments, witness the ritual ring-entering ceremonies, and combine the experience with a stroll through the nearby museum.
