Tsukishima is a small reclaimed island in Tokyo’s Sumida River estuary, created in 1892 from dredged earth and shaped by Japan’s industrial-era policies. Visitors can enjoy riverside walks, take in the neighborhood’s industrial heritage and unique streetscape, and easily hop over to nearby Tsukuda for more local flavor.
